Sit-to-Stand

Purpose: To assess muscular endurance of the lower body

This test is the only standardized lower body muscular endurance test that the ACSM has, and the NSCA doesn't have one. So, if you decide that this test is not for your or your clients, then it would be recommended to create some standardized norms for an assessment that will challenge your client enough to elicit the muscle quality test we are aiming for. Unfortunately with this assessment, many active people can do hundreds of these without fatiguing.

This test is best suited for those who are sedentary prior to starting a program with you, elderly, or weight loss clients.

Procedures:

· Set metronome to 60 bpm (so participant will complete 30 lifts per minute)

· Assess how many times the participant can sit down onto chair and stand back up

What ideas do you have for a more appropriately challenging lower body muscular endurance test?
